California Board for Energy Efficiency
Served as the primary communications contractor in the formation and establishment of this state agency charged with responsibility for defining and managing California’s energy efficiency programs under the state’s public benefits legislation, AB 1890. Provided administrative services during the Board’s startup, developed agendas, responded to public inquiries, filed documents with the California Public Utilities Commission, maintained Board records, and managed Board finances.

Harbor Bay Isle Associates
Structured and edited a business plan presented to the board of directors of the General Electric Company describing alternate business scenarios for a large residential-commercial development owned by a unit of General Electric. The plan earned continued funding for the development, which subsequently was spun off as an independent entity.

Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Worked as the primary communications contractor for the R&D Department for over a decade. Designed and managed annual communications plans and wrote and produced the department’s core communications products including annual reports, technical reports, results flyers, profile documents, technical journal articles, and a quarterly newsletter. This work helped the department support and maintain it’s budget of approximately $30 million a year; improved technology transfer to corporate managers and field operations staff; and gained broad exposure for the department’s 200+ research projects with key external audiences including the government, private industry, research organizations, and the media.

Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
Conceived and managed communications programs ranging to over $1 million a year for half a dozen departments within the Institute for over 20 years. Edited and processed technical reports to improve their quality and ensure timely production; wrote and produced speeches, technical papers, and audiovisuals. This effort helped individual departments promote their activities within the institute and gained broad exposure for the Institute within the utility industry and scientific community generally.

Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation
Designed and managed media and public affairs programs for the corporation and its Refractories, Industrial Chemicals, R&D, and Energy Efficiency divisions for five years. Wrote press releases and speeches for company executives; developed and coordinated media events and a speaker’s bureau; made presentations to community groups; and served as media spokesman.

Kaiser Refractories
Served as the primary communications contractor on this Division’s spin-off as an ESOP from Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation. Defined new corporate identity and trademark materials and designed corporate and media communications activities to establish the new identity in the marketplace.

Sacramento Municipal Utility District
Planned and managed a variety of communications projects for SMUD’s Energy Efficiency Department. As part of this activity, designed and presented a workshop on procedures for responding to requests for proposals; prepared responses to request for proposals; and designed and managed production of brochures, program description sheets, and the Department’s business plan.

Private Industry Council of Sonoma County
Served for three years as the primary communications contractor for this council. Designed and managed media and community relations programs; wrote and placed press releases; wrote speeches and developed and coordinated a speakers’ bureau; made presentations to business and community groups; and served as media spokesman.

Femrite Nursery Company
Designed and implemented a multi-phase marketing program including newsletters, catalogs, brochures, website development and hosting, and articles in industry trade magazines.
