Steps in Communications Planning

At WN&A we design, implement, and manage marketing and communications programs.

This process is an iterative one, and it requires time and close attention. It begins with your answers to the following six questions….

1. What are your goals?

What do you want or need to accomplish with your communications efforts?

2. Who are your audiences?

Are they internal to your company (e.g., the board, management, other departments, employees), external (e.g., customers, visitors, industry leaders, government agencies/ representatives, vendors, peer energy/engineering companies), or both?

3. What are your messages?

What are the key points you want to make with each of these audiences?

4. What’s your schedule?

What is your time frame?

5. Which products & activities are best for you?

Which products & activities will most effectively and efficiently help you communicate your messages to your key audiences to accomplish your objectives within the given time frame?

6. What’s your budget?

Which products and activities can you afford?

We’ll talk through these questions with you. Where necessary, we’ll help you research the answers you need. Finally, we’ll give you a clear, written plan to use in implementing your program.
